is an organization with its stated mission to end identity theft.

We provide insight for a variety of identity theft related services such as preventative services, credit monitoring, insurance and recovery services.

	Assist individuals to protect their identities. We make protecting your identity affordable by providing basic products to protect your and your family’s identities.

	Protect businesses from being compromised. We consult with our members to ensure they are following “best in class” practices to protect consumer information.

	Provide educational programs and industry review. We conduct a number of consumer awareness initiatives and keep our members informed of industry trends and the best companies in the industry.

About Citizens for a Secure Identity

Mission: To provide affordable protection for your identity; to provide education for individuals and businesses about how to safeguard their information; lobby to reduce or eliminate identity theft related crimes through tougher laws and serious enforcement of existing laws; to inform consumers of potential scams, as they occur; to identify the best companies for additional identity theft protection, reporting and recovery.

Have you ever wondered if someone could really steal your identity, and what that might mean to you?

Identity theft is much more than someone using your credit card number to charge goods and services. Identity theft places all that you own at risk.

For example, a criminal, placing bond to get out of jail, could use your identity, then flee, leaving you to pay the bond, or finding yourself in jail for a crime you did not commit.
Someone may use your Social Security Number to gain employment, fail to pay taxes on earnings, and leave you to pay the taxes, loose your home and property, or go to jail.
Someone may open an account using your identity and write bad checks, leaving you to clean up the mess.
Someone may open a credit card account using your identity; pay the bills until the credit limit is raised, then skip, leaving you with the bill.

All of these situations can place your credit score, your savings, your home and belongings, even your freedom at risk.

Provide an affordable service to protect your identity by placing a fraud alert on every reporting service, four times per year.
Provide companies affordable service to cover their employees.
Provide a list of most favored companies who sell in depth identity theft policies.
Provide educational programs, such as this website, to share news and information about identity theft issues.
Support lobby groups advocating for identity theft laws.
Encourage law enforcement agencies to take swift and decisive action in identity theft cases.

You might say to yourself, “Who would steal my identity, I’m not rich?” You are the person we formed this organization to help. We started with a basic premise, that ALL people should be free of identity theft. Then we asked who is most at risk? Finally, we asked what could we do to help...and Citizens for a Secure Identity was formed.
